Smart Growth and New Urbanism go hand in hand. The goal is to eliminate sprawl, to reduce dependence on the automobile, to conserve resources and to encourage human interaction. Carriage Hill Landing gets a virtually perfect score on the Smart Growth index. Downtown is a quick walk to the west, the Riverwalk leads off to the east. The Powow River borders the site. Amesbury’s downtown has been beautifully restored, yet it retains its century-old character as a place where real people live and work.
